I would
love to tell you about my “lovely” weekend, but you and I would be
disappointed. After having found my car broken into, the setting was not for a
particularly marvelous time. So I’m genuinely hoping that you had an enjoyable
weekend without any police or insurance claims in sight.
However, my
ordeal at the beginning of my weekend brought to the fore that half the time I’m
not present in each moment as it unfolds. Had I been present, maybe I’d have
thought to leave my Garmin at home (since I wasn’t using it) and possibly take
my surroundings into account and park closer to where the car guards were. I
rush through every moment just wanting to get to the next and not even being
conscious of that very next*in case you haven’t noticed, I’m trying to use more
“I” instead of “we”…trying to keep myself accountable and present*
So I urge
you-and myself of course- to be in the NOW this week; to allow yourself to take
in life as it happens and not in hindsight. We miss the detail when we are
unconscious to life as it unfolds.
History is more or less bunk. It’s tradition. We don’t want tradition. We want
to live in the present and the only history that’s worth a tinker’s damn is the
history we make today.
-Henry Ford
Today it is not nearly enough to be a saint, but we must have the saintliness
demanded by the present moment, a new saintliness, itself also without
precedent.
-Simone Weil
